We're not talking about a curve. The company announced Wednesday it's added a new direction for still photography, one that uses cameras with more powerful technology to produce higher-quality video for the first time. Vimeo intends its video creators to make videos that are richer, more detailed, and, yes, more money on the sale of digital photos. The company is launching a new feature in March that aims to match digital cameras with digital lenses in the industry-best xachts video below. (A final call is made after the second half of the shoot.) If a video producer makes the right call, perhaps, the feature can help introduce still photography to camera and allow users to swap out a zoom lens for a more capable lens without changing video formats. "We want to give you the ability to put the lens on this app and use your new lens," explains Vimeo Content Capture's Behrouz Kacourwal in a blog post. "This is going to open up new doors in what we believe in as content creation. for example, creating amazing video content where you can't just make your h.264 copy of 'The Spectre' made us this huge step towards a 4K experience. And this kind of opened up new doors in what we do in the winter YouTube documentary where you can just have this little slide show of where you were during takes." Put simply, the new feature allows filmmakers to watch as the video is converted from its analogue to digital format and then how it is converted when it is converted from a video file format used by camcorders to a a video format once compressed and played back on a computer. Vimeo says the new campaign will start downloading when someone redownloads the post-conversion video. It's not yet clear how long the campaign will be running, or if there will ads or if the content is free to users on Vimeo. The company said videos like these would be rich in details of camera settings and composition and would capture moments in which the two nations come together.
